Abebe Fikir, a journalist at The Reporter, was taken into police custody yesterday. A reason for his arrest has not been established.
The arrest took place on the evening of April 23, 2025, while Abebe was in the process of soliciting information from Addis Ababa City Administration officials for a news article.
The Addis Ababa Police Commission has since notified The Reporter that Abebe is being held at a police station in Gejja Sefer, Lideta Sub-city.
The Reporter is working hard to secure his release.
