Ethiopian to take part in African Junior Championships

The Ethiopian U-18 and U-20 athletics team is set to participate in the 2019 African Junior Championships in Abidjan, Ivory Coast starting from April 6-20, 2019. The Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) has called up 82 athletes from both age groups to compete in the championships.

It has been 45 days since the EFF called up the selected youth national team athletes following the local pre-competition championships. The EAF has selected 14 senior and new coaches for various events. The Ethiopian athletics governing body has unveiled that the field event will open an opportunity to develop experiences through the championships, mainly focusing on jumping and throwing events.

The team will also participate in various track events starting from 100m to 10k races. However, only the male athletes will represent in distances of 5,000m, 10,000m whereas the women participate in 3,000m and 5,000m distance races. The championship also includes steeplechase races in 2,000m distance.

Abidjan has been selected as the host of the CAA African U18 (youth) and U20 (junior) athletics championships in April. It is the third African U-18 Championships and the 14th African championships.
