Ethiopian athletes to lead Boston Marathon

Eluid expected to take part

The Ethiopian World Athletics Marathon Champions will compete in the Boston Marathon on April 17, 2023, along with other elite athletes. The 2019 Qatar World Athletics Championships gold medalist in the men’s marathon, Lelisa Desisa, and the 2022 Oregon gold medalist in the women’s marathon, Gotytom Gebreslase, have registered for the Boston marathon.

Lelisa is an accomplished long-distance runner who has competed in numerous international competitions. He has won the Boston Marathon on two occasions, in 2013 and 2015, and has also managed to win the New York City Marathon in 2018.

At the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Lelisa ran a personal best of 2:10:40 in the men’s marathon to win the title. After the 2013 Boston Marathon, Lelisa donated his gold medal to the city of Boston in remembrance of the victims of the bombing that occurred during the race.

In Oregon, Gotytom ran a marathon in 2:08:11 and won. She also won the Berlin Marathon in 2021 and placed third in the New York City Marathon in 2022.

Atsede Bayisa is another Ethiopian confirmed to join Gotytom in the lineup. The winner of the 2016 Boston Marathon has also won the 2012 and 2016 Chicago Marathons and the 2009 and 2010 Paris Marathons.

The oldest annual marathon, the Boston Marathon, continues to be conducted, spanning over 127 years. Numerous distance runners prepared to compete in the Boston marathon.

The race organizer announced that Eluid Kipchoge, one of the greatest and most decorated long-distance runners of all time, will be among the top competitors in the race.

In 2022, Kipchoge broke his own world record by finishing the Berlin Marathon in 2:01:09. He is the only athlete to have run the 2019 Vienna marathon in 1:59:40 and hold both the official and unofficial world records for marathons.
