Four Ethiopian athletes nominated for “Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year” award

Four Ethiopian athletes have been nominated for the World Athletics Awards 2024 “Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year” award; the world athletics sport governing body announced.

According to World Athletics, Sutume Asefa Kebede and Tigist Ketema are among the five nominees for 2024 Women’s Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year.

Notably, Sutume has won the Tokyo Marathon by clocking 2:15:55, the second-best time for women’s marathon race in 2024. Meanwhile, Tigist Ketema has also won the Berlin and Dubai marathon races in 2024, clocking 2:16:42 and 2:16:07, respectively.

In the men’s list, world half marathon record holder Yomif Kejelcha and Paris Olympic champion Tamrat Tola are also among the five nominees for the 2024 Men’s Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year.

In what has been another memorable year for the sport, the nominations reflect some of the standout performances achieved at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, World Athletics Cross Country Championships, Label Road races and other events around the world.

Voting closes on Sunday 3 November at 11:59 PM CET, World Athletics said.
