Ethiopian Reporter’s Yonas Amare Walks Free

– Ahadu Radio host Abdulsemed Mohammed also released

Yonas Amare, senior editor at the Ethiopian Reporter, was released on the evening of Friday, August 22, 2025, after spending 10 days in captivity. Abdulsemed Mohammed, host of Ahadu Radio’s popular ‘Kidame Gebeya’ program, was also released on Friday after 12 days in captivity.

Individuals wearing what appeared to be military uniforms and face masks took Yonas from his residence in Koye Fiche, on the outskirts of Addis Ababa, on the evening of August 13. Although he was in their custody for over a week, the identities of the men and the location where Yonas was being held remain a mystery.
